Do you use just a username and password to access your companies site that contains private and confidential data? Have you ever wondered how you could increase the security of the site and keep it simple? Nerds On Site has implemented the Yubikey for many of our clients sites and in fact, use it on our own site.
So what does it do and how does it work? The Yubikey plugs into any USB port on your computer or laptop. When you place your finger on the green button, it creates a unique one time password (the value it creates is unique to your key and will never be replicated). You can then use this value to validate against an authentication server.
What does this mean to you?
– If you work in public places or worry about key-loggers or phishing attempts, the Yubikey eliminates this fear because only YOU carry the password to get into your application
– If you worry about your employees using weak passwords, the Yubikey ensures a strong password is used (in fact on our site we still use user-name and passwords and add Yubikey as a third field)
– The key itself is waterproof, crush resistant and operates without a battery. You can take it anywhere, have it on you at all times and even have it branded to your company’s name (lets link to a picture of ours).
– the key is very affordable which means low entry costs to start using it. All CFO’s like the sound of that!
I have my Yubikey, do you?
