It’s ransomware, or maybe a disk wiper, and it’s striking targets in Israel. This is actually a newly-discovered threat that SentinelOne dubbed Apostle. Apostle was at first a wiper but has become full-fledged ransomware. The researchers tie the operation to the Iranian government, so its past targets of the UAE and now Israel make sense.

DHS to issue first cybersecurity regulations for pipelines after Colonial hack. Good first step in public policy changes to forcibly strengthen the private sector security posture, but probably only the first of many to come.

Update Your Mac Now: Nasty Hack Breaks Apple Security To Take Sneaky Photos. Big Sur 11.4 update is urgent if you haven’t already. Regardless, it’s a good reminder that an all-around security posture is essential to disallow these kinds of threats to occur before patching.

Rise in Opportunistic Hacks and Info-Sharing Imperil Industrial Networks. Sometimes it’s a simple as obtaining a set of system credentials to a remote system. This is just a reminder that the playing field isn’t fair: WE must find ALL holes and weaknesses, but the criminal needs to find only ONE.

Understanding trackers and how they work in real-life targeted ads. The most interesting part is that if two phones are tracked to often be in the same location, even without any social media connections, that proximity is enough to make the connection by trackers.
