World Data Backup Day is March 31st! Will You Participate?World Backup day is on March 31st – a mere 2 days away! It is an annual global event reminding everyone to take some time to backup your data, and to verify existing backups are working.
According to the World Backup Day website:
“More than 60 million computers will fail worldwide in 2013. Only 1 in 4 people back up their information regularly – that’s roughly 45 million times this year where files will be lost forever. Even worse – 113 cell phones are lost or stolen every minute in the United States alone. That’s hundreds of photos, conversations, calendars and more, gone in an instant. It’s important to be ready.”
Data Backup can be a very simple process, and it can be mostly automated once it’s properly setup. There can be more to it than backing up your browser favorites, documents, and photos. If you use Microsoft Outlook or another email program, or Simply Accounting, the automated program you use needs to know where those files are stored in order to access them.
A Nerd can install Nerds Backup (or a solution that fits your needs), and set it up to ensure ALL important data will be backed up. We’ll teach you how to use it, but for the most part it will be automated.
Many external hard drives now come with automated backup software, though it’s rarely free, it’s worth every cent when you consider how much your data is worth. If money is tight, check out Cobian Backup, which is free, but not as easy to use. Just remember, your computer needs to be turned on with the backup program running, and the external drive plugged in.
Don’t forget to backup your smartphone! Your iPhone, Android, or Blackberry is likely synchronized and backed up to your computer, but it’s important to backup those files. Again, a Nerd can point your backup program to where the files are stored. With mobile devices growing in storage size, there can be a significant amount of data, and that shouldn’t be overlooked.
We know it’s Easter weekend, and by all means take some time for yourself and to spend with family, but it’s worth scheduling some time in the coming days to schedule a regular backup routine. Don’t wait until disaster happens. Will you choose to be proactive? If you need some help, please contact a Nerd! 1-877-696-3737
