Products and features reach the end of their product life cycle for a number of reasons. These reasons may be due to market demands, technology innovation and development driving changes in the product, or the products simply mature over time and are replaced by functionally richer technology. While this is an established part of the overall product life cycle, Nerds On Site recognizes that end-of-life milestones often prompt companies to review the way they are utilizing our technologies in their business, and thus we wish to give as much notice of significant changes to our offerings as possible.
As of January 1, 2013, our Basic hosting package was no longer offered for sale to clients and has been replaced by our Business hosting offering. All clients can take advantage of our one-click tool to upgrade to Business hosting, and we’ve provided a guide to do this here: https://www.nerdsonsite.com/blog/2013/03/20/how-to-upgrade-your-hosting-package/.
Starting on May 1, 2013, the following two changes will go into effect for all existing Basic hosting packages:
Mailbox Size Limitation Change
Starting on May 1, 2013, all Basic hosting mail accounts will be limited to 1GB of storage space per email address. If you are currently using a POP connector to download your email (this is the most common method to get your email) then you will not have to be concerned in any way with this change. Simply ensure that your email settings are set to delete the email off the server once you’ve downloaded it to ensure you do not run out of space. (Read this article for more help: https://www.nerdsonsite.com/blog/2011/11/01/slow-sendreceive-tips/.) If you are using our webmail interface exclusively, we strongly encourage you to convert to a POP or IMAP account with a proper email client instead. Webmail access is provided for occasional and temporary access only. If you are using an IMAP account, you will need to ensure that your total mailbox size does not exceed 1GB at any time. If your mailbox size does exceed 1GB, new email will be bounced back to the sender. If using an IMAP account, we recommend keeping your Sent & Deleted folders cleaned regularly to avoid unnecessary build-up of storage. This change will only affect Basic hosting clients that also use our shared email service. Please note: Business hosting packages will continue to have unlimited email storage space.
DNS Redundancy Change
Starting on May 1, 2013, all Basic hosting accounts will be served by only one DNS server, instead of the two they currently use. This will have no affect on any client using a Basic hosting account, but will remove the redundancy currently present in the DNS system. Please note: Business hosting packages will continue to have a geographically redundant DNS system.
