A recent update to Symantec’s anti-virus and Endpoint Protection software has caused many computers to crash, frustrating many customers. A fix was released hours later to resolve the problem, which can be accessed via LiveUpdate. The issue can also be resolved by going to each affected computer and removing the software, a very time consuming process.
About 300 corporate customers that have been affected, and about 60 consumer customers, according to a Reuters article.
According to the article, only computers using Windows XP have been affected, though a forum post on Symantec’s website says other Windows operating systems have also been affected.
Symantec has resolved the issue, which clients can download via Liveupdate. They also posted a couple of workarounds, which can be found in this Knowledge Base article.
