I only have a few local SME clients that I support directly,, but one of them is a local veterinarian / animal clinic. I called them on Friday and said I needed to come in to look at their server.
“Really? We have not noticed any problems until today. It seems slow and we had to restart it once, but we haven’t called you yet.” was the reply.
Because I get daily reports showing the errors in the event log, I could see the deterioration of the server over the past 4-5 days. I logged in remotely and showed them a screenshot of the errors.
To make a long story short, I did additional backups, took the drives offline, ran consistency checks, reformatted, restored from a image made in November, updated the data, and no more errors. I went onsite because they are only 10 minutes away, BUT I now have software in place that would allow me to do it all again without putting on my pants .
The bottom line – I called them BEFORE this became a crisis. No server crash and no lost time. Remote monitoring and management – no client should be without it – even those who are not (yet) on NerdCare.
